アネモネは万里の愛した花の一つ。背景の色を決めるときはいつも潔かった。1970年代中頃の休眠から再起して間もない頃の作品。Anemone is one of the flowers she loved.She was always clean when deciding the color of the background. This work was just around the time of hibernation from dormancy in the mid-1970s.
1982年は、長男が大学で芝居にのめり込んだ頃で、互いに触発されながら、10年ぶりの個展を万里は開催した。まさに復活の年だった。In 1982, when the eldest son was in college, he was absorbed in the play .He and Mari were inspired by each other and Mari held her first solo exhibition in 10 years. It was the year of the revival exactly.
東日本大震災の翌年、大槌町の知人からいただいた新巻鮭に感激して一気に描き上げた。東北の人々へのエールである。いつも、世の中の出来事が彼女の絵に大きな影響を与えていた。「居ても立ってもいられない」思いで描いた情熱、勢いを感じさせる。The year after the Great East Japan Earthquake, she was deeply moved by the Aramaki salmon received from an acquaintance in Otsuchi Town. This picture is a yell to the people of Tohoku. Always, the events of the world had a great influence on her paintings. It makes me feel the passion and momentum she drew with the thought that she could not stay or stand.
1972年、当時ソビエト連邦のキエフ(現キーウ）を訪れた友人が、組み立てると塔になる積み木をお土産にくださった。傍らには、反戦運動を共にした仲間たちが語り合っている姿。今のウクライナ情勢を目にしたら、堀万里はどんな絵を描くだろう。In 1972, Mari's friend who visited Kiev (now Kieu) in the Soviet Union gave her a souvenir of a block that would become a tower when assembled. By the side, friends who were together in the anti-war movement are talking. If she see the current situation in Ukraine, what kind of picture will Mari Hori draw?
